SURREALISM
General overview:
Surrealism is an art movement dedicated to expressing the imagination as revealed in dreams, free of the conscious control of reason and convention. The surrealist movement occurred during the 1920's and became more popular in the 1930's. The surrealist were inspired by the Dada movement. The Dada movement was a reaction to WWI and the amount of death that it caused. This inspired surrealist because they liked the weirdness but were more focused on the dream and physiology and the subconscious aspect of the art.
Paul Nash:
One artist involved in the Surrealism movement during World War Two was Paul Nash. Nash was from Great Britain and grew up in Buckinghamshire, this is where he developed his love and passion for landscape. In 1914, Paul Nash enlisted in the Artists' Rifles in Ypres. His art skills were used when he was appointed as an official war artist.
